FAQs about Invisalign in Sydney answered by our team

After reaching adulthood, many people are unhappy with the alignment of their teeth; this can cause them to hide their smiles or talk using unusual mouth movements to ensure that their misalignment is not detected. Needless to say, this is no way to live!
In the past, the only way many people could find relief from misaligned teeth was to wear braces, which were far from discreet. As technology and orthodontics have advanced, it is now possible to correct a wide range of misalignment issues using an invisible or clear aligner.
When you come to Spa Dental Sydney, we will assess your suitability for clear or invisible aligners, such as Invisalign in Sydney. If we deem you suitable, we will take an intraoral scan of your mouth, and within 4 to 6 weeks, you will have the aligners and can begin your realignment journey. Great!
But you may have some questions about Invisalign in Sydney before undertaking it, and here, our team will answer some of the most common queries we receive.
How do the aligners work?
Invisalign in Sydney uses computer technology to predict the movements required for your teeth to be aligned properly. The image from the intraoral scan is entered into a computer model, which then predicts the stages needed to move your teeth into the desired final positions. From this, a set of around 12 to 14 stages are created, each indicating a different aligner shape in the series.
From this, a set of aligners are printed and sent to our surgery for you to collect. When you wear them in the given order for around two weeks at a time, they move your teeth as was simulated in the computer models.
Are they more comfortable than braces?
Many people who have worn metal braces during childhood agree that invisible aligners are more comfortable.
However, this does not mean that they do not cause feelings of pressure or soreness. The aligners have to move your teeth within a set time frame by applying pressure, which can make your teeth feel sore. We recommend our patients undertaking invisible aligners to use over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen or paracetamol to mitigate this discomfort.
Do they take longer than braces?
Surprisingly, no!
Invisible aligners take as little as 3 to 6 months to straighten teeth, provided that you wear them each day for the required 22 hours.
The length of your treatment will also depend on the severity of your dental misalignment.
Are they more expensive than braces?
Once again, surprisingly, no!
The cost of braces is made up by the number of visits to the dentist to have the braces tightened and adjusted, along with the length of wear. With invisible aligners, you can update our team on your progress via a downloadable app, although you will have to see us every 6-8 weeks for checkups. And since aligners are generally designed to treat less complex cases of misalignment, the cost is driven down. Great!
How do I keep them clean?
As the aligners are removable, you can keep them clean by simply rinsing them under a cold water tap. Avoid using hot water to clean them, as this can cause the aligners to warp out of shape.
